Our Philosophy

We've rented many cars while we've been travelling: some have been great experiences (a Porsche Macan we drove along Australia's Great Ocean Road was probably our best experience) and many poor experiences.

When we set up this company we made a list of things we hated about the rental car experience, and decided we'd do our best to avoid them. Things that make us different, in a good way, are:

  • There's no need to fill up our cars with petrol/diesel, or fully-charge them before return. Nobody likes racing around an unfamiliar city trying to find a petrol station while also on a deadline to return the car and catch a flight. Of course, if you do, that's awesome, but there's no penalty if you don't.
  • No insurance up-sell. We've arranged good insurance for our vehicles and have a modest excess (about half that of the big rental companies). We offer an excess-buydown if you want it. If you don't want it, that's fine. In our T&Cs we remind you that you might already have insurance cover from your credit card or travel insurance: it pays to check.
  • Flexible pickup/dropoff times. We set up our pricing so the cars are charged by calendar day, not by the minute. If you're an hour late, no worries. We're flexible. Just let us know when things change.
  • Door-to-door service. We had an SUV rental delivered (and collected) from our hotel in Oman once and it was super convenient. We loved it. If you're arriving on a late flight, we recommend you take an Uber to your hotel, and then ask us to drop the car off to your hotel the next day. Don't stress around at the airport, just grab a taxi, and let the car come to you!
  • Communication. We're pretty quick to respond to emails, and usually pretty snappy on WhatsApp. Having to phone a call center is so last century, but if you want to chat with us, you can! We'll give you our mobile phone number and you can call us 24/7 while you're on the road.

Collection and Return

We offer door-to-door service: we can meet you anywhere in NZ to deliver the car, and pick it up again. (Is this sustainable as we grow? Probably not. Enjoy it while it lasts!)

Typically we'll meet you at an airport somewhere in NZ to deliver or collect the vehicle.

Our top 3 most-popular locations for customers pickup up our cars are:

  1. Auckland
  2. Auckland Airport
  3. Christchurch

Our top 3 most-popular locations for customers returning our cars are:

  1. Auckland
  2. Rotorua Airport
  3. Queenstown

(This data live-updates from our booking database, because we're nerds!)

On-Road Support

Our vehicles are covered by AA Rental Care, a 24/7 award-winning service provided by The New Zealand Automobile Association. If you can't get hold of us, call them and they'll help out for all mechanical-related issues. They can even help with non-mechanical issues (e.g. lost keys, run out of fuel) for a fee.

Quick-Reference Guide

We've built the Little Bit Fancy vehicle booking system exactly the way we think a great booking system should work.

This includes a secure link, shared with you, that shows:

  • All the booking details (vehicle, start/end dates, times, locations)
  • Vehicle fuel type
  • Contact details for 24/7 roadside assistance
  • Quick-access to condition photos and rental documents

Station Wagon/Estate

Mercedes-Benz C 220d

This is a 2019 Mercedes-Benz C200d estate and it's one of our favourite vehicles: it's exceptionally comfortable and has plenty of room for luggage and passengers. It's not too big around town, and not too small for longer journeys. It's our go-to vehicle for long-distance adventures. This vehicle is a diesel and averages around 5L/100km, which is very fuel-efficient and inexpensive to operate. It is packed with safety features, includes ISOFIX mounting points for children's car seats, and a safety net for keeping luggage in the boot/trunk. This vehicle is reasonably low to the ground and is not suitable for unsealed roads.
